Help with the Guernsey App on iOS and Android
Get in touch
The quickest way to get something fixed is to email cjhyman@gmail.com. It's one islander maintaining this, so replies usually come within a few days.
If you're reporting a problem, it helps a lot to include your phone (iPhone or Android), the app version from the Settings screen, and which screen it happened on.
Common questions
My bin collection days look wrong
Bin days are worked out from the address you picked on the Bins screen. Open Bins and check the address at the top is right — reselecting it will refresh the schedule.
Collections also shift around public holidays. If your day is still wrong after checking the address, email us with your parish and we'll look at it.
I'm not getting bin reminders
Reminders need notification permission. Check that notifications are allowed for the app in your phone's settings, then open the app's Settings screen and confirm bin reminders are switched on and set to the time you want.
Reminders are scheduled on your phone, so they'll keep working with no signal — but if you force-quit the app repeatedly, some phones stop it scheduling them.
I'm not getting road closure alerts
These only go out for routes you've saved on the Roads screen, and they need notification permission. Open Roads, check your commute route is still saved, and allow notifications when prompted.
Alerts fire when a new closure appears on a road along your saved route — quiet weeks are normal.
The app isn't finding my flight
Flight tracking reads your calendar to spot upcoming flight bookings, so it needs calendar permission, and the booking needs to be in a calendar on your phone with the flight number in it. Your calendar is only read on your device — it's never uploaded.
You can also follow any flight from the Travel screen without using your calendar.
The map on the Roads screen won't load
Usually a connection problem — close and reopen the screen once you have signal. If it stays blank for more than a day, email us, as that generally means something needs fixing at our end rather than yours.
A tide time, bus time or opening time is wrong
The app pulls this from published island sources, so an error is usually either a change we haven't picked up or a mistake at the source. Tell us what's wrong and where you saw it and we'll correct it — these reports are the main way listings stay accurate.
How do I add my event to What's On?
There's a submission link on the What's On screen. It opens a short form, and submissions are checked by hand before they appear, so allow a little time. It's free, and community events are welcome.
Can I hide sections I never use?
Yes. The Settings screen lets you hide tiles you don't want and drag the rest into whatever order suits you. Your layout stays on your phone.
I live in Alderney — is the app useful?
Yes. Open Settings and switch your island to Alderney, and the tides, news, events and travel information follow, including Braye tides and Alderney flight disruption.
What does the app do with my data?
Very little — there are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and nearly everything stays on your phone. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored and what is sent.
Still stuck?
Bugs, corrections, missing listings and feature requests all go to the same place.
